Book Review – Broken Dolls by James Coral
I have recently been looking for new material to read. I am a huge fan of crime/ thriller novels. One night I was looking at Amazon to see if there was anything that took my fancy and up popped an author named James Carol. His book, Broken Dolls, is the first in a 3 part series about an ex- FBI profiler, Jefferson Winters, who goes around the world helping police solve cases – usually involving a sadistic psychopath a race against time to catch them.
Jefferson uses his intelligent and logical thinking to get in the mind of the killer to establish their next move.
Broken Dolls is set in London and Winters is trying to find a kidnapper that tortures and lobotomies young women.
Honestly after reading the first few pages I was hooked. The story is fast paced but enjoyable. It built up suspense throughout and managed to keep me on edge as I was unsure how the story would turn and even how the characters would act.
Winters is an engaging quirky character that comes across very likable and intriguing, we find out about his past and his father and maybe this has shaped how Winters is. I really enjoyed the relationship between Winters and Sophie Templeton (the detective investigating) as you weren’t sure if it would turn romantic especially as they are investigating such a horrendous crime.
It was gruesome, intense and unpredictable. It’s quite scary that James Carol could come up with these ideas.
Overall I would say it’s a gripping read. Anyone who enjoys thrillers and crime novels this book is a must. I’m looking forward to reading the next book which I’m planning on reading straight after I post this.
Thank you for reading J
